Washington Commanders News: LSU HC Brian Kelly Appears to Confirm Team Will Draft Jayden Daniels.
The NFL Draft is a month away. Fans, pundits, and sports enthusiasts have been attempting to predict who might fall in the first round. The consensus is the Chicago Bears will draft USC quarterback Caleb Williams #1 overall, but there has been some argument on which signal-callers will go #2 and #3.
The other top QB prospects are LSU’s Jayden Daniels and UNC’s Drake Maye. A dark horse top-five pick is also Michigan’s J.J. McCarthy. Both Daniels and Maye impressed on their Pro Day performances, and they have since been the talk of the NFL town.
While everyone is attempting to guess which QB will go #2 overall (which belongs to the Washington Commanders) between Daniels and Maye, LSU HC Brian Kelly may have confirmed the Commanders will take Daniels.
Kelly states in a video posted by Commanders Nation on X, “He [Daniels] is going to be so committed to taking care of himself, that you are not going to have to worry about size… he is going to get the ball out to the playmakers and make plays… for Washington.”
This could be viewed as a simple throwaway comment, but Kelly might also be clued in on the plans that the Commanders have. He has been busy getting Daniels ready for the pro level, and Daniels’ Pro Day performance seems to indicate that he will be selected #2 overall.
The size concern that Kelly is also bringing up is that Daniels may be 6’4″, but he only weighs 210 lbs. That is a bit on the lower side when it comes to QBs. “Undersized” QBs are always viewed as more of a concern simply because they might get injured far easier than a QB that has more muscle mass on them.
