Diamondbacks Sign Jordan Montgomery On 1-Year, $25 Million Deal: REPORT

Okay … so the D-Backs obviously aren’t going anywhere in terms of World Series contention.

The Arizona Diamondbacks and left-handed pitcher Jordan Montgomery have agreed on a one-year, $25 million deal with a vesting player option for a potential second campaign, according to a Tuesday night report from ESPN.

Last season, the D-Backs won the National League championship, with this move upgrading their chances to win the Fall Classic this year — a move that sees Arizona stealing Montgomery away from the Texas Rangers, the team who beat them in the 2023 World Series. (RELATED: Miami Dolphins Make Offer To Odell Beckham Jr. In Outright Confusing Move, But I’m All For It)

It was expected that Montgomery’s market would be high after a dominant showing last season, and that’s exactly what happened with a $25 million deal, with the player option potentially being for $20 million.

In the 2023 campaign, Montgomery threw for a career-best 3.20 ERA in 188⅔ innings, with the last 67⅔ being with the Rangers following a trade at the deadline from the St. Louis Cardinals. That dominance would continue in the playoffs, with Montgomery throwing seven shutout innings against the Tampa Bay Rays in the wild-card round. In the ALCS, he continued with 14 hot innings, eventually leading to the Rangers winning the World Series.
