“Gone south” – Watford owner Gino Pozzo told how he must improve
Watford fan pundit Justin has been discussing owner Gino Pozzo after another turbulent season for the club.
Watford have had another chaotic season, with Tom Cleverley set to finish the season in charge of the first-team.
The Hornets turned to Valerien Ismael for the current campaign, and it was hoped that the ex-West Brom chief would be able to guide the club back to the Premier League.
Despite their reputation for hiring and firing, the board were convinced Ismael was the right man, so he surprisingly signed a new contract just months after joining.
Yet, Watford would continue to struggle, and they languish in mid-table as it stands, with Ismael having lost his job earlier this month.
Gino Pozzo comes in for criticism
With Watford having spent most of the past decade in the Premier League, fans are understandably hoping the club can make a quick return, but the past two seasons have been tough.
Naturally, that has prompted questions about Pozzo, particularly as the club continue to change managers at an alarming rate, and the call to sack Rob Edwards, who went on to win promotion with bitter rivals Luton Town, didn’t exactly help matters.
Yet, speaking to FLW, Hornets fan pundit Justin Beattie explained that recruitment is the major issue at Vicarage Road right now, and it’s something that must be addressed by the owner ahead of the summer window.
He said: “At the moment, he’s about 4/10. He needs to invest in the recruitment of the players. He needs to build a much better culture at the club, as it’s gone south over the past few years. He needs to improve communications between himself and the fans, as he’s met once in his 12-year tenure. So, there’s an awful lot he could be doing better.
“I think a lot of the fans are losing patience with him rapidly, but we have to remember that he has brought us a sustained period in the Premier League, to an FA Cup final, and he has brought some amazing talents to the club over the years, such as Gerard Deulofeu and Etienne Capoue. But, he seems to have stopped doing that, so he needs to improve the recruitment on the playing side of things.”
