Burnley defender CJ Egan-Riley joins SPL outfit Hibernian on loan until the end of the season

Club have ‘not yet made a decision’ about Burnley man’s future – Has not quite met ‘sporting standard’ in games

It appears that CJ Egan-Riley, who was loaned by Burnley to PSV Eindhoven in the Netherlands, could be heading back to Turf Moor in the coming months.

That’s according to Eindhovens Dagblad, relayed by Voetbal Primeur, who reveal the Eredivisie side have ‘not yet made a decision’ about what they want to do with the player

It’s explained that in his first few games for Jong PSV, what is essentially their U21 team, the Burnley loanee did ‘not quite meet the sporting standard’ required of him.

Loaned for the last six months of the season, Egan-Riley’s deal with PSV also included an option to buy, but it ‘remains to be seen’ whether they decide to activate it or not.

It seems the Dutch club had certain expectations from the Burnley player, which he has yet to meet, and that could affect his future at the club.

Egan-Riley was signed on a free transfer from Manchester City’s U21s back in 2022, and spent the second half of last season on loan at Hibernian FC in Scotland.

He has made seven appearances in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie with Jong PSV and hasn’t provided an assist or scored a goal, which is a similar stat line to what he has produced at Burnley so far, with just six appearances to date
