Shaun Harvey delivers stunning £7m Wrexham reveal
The League Two side’s worth has jumped up according to figures disclosed by the former EFL chief executive.
Wrexham’s value has increased by around £7 million since Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney took over, it’s been revealed.
The Hollywood pair took control of the North Wales club from the Wrexham Supporters Trust in February 2021, injecting an initial investment of £2m.
The League Two side’s worth has now jumped to £9m, according to figures disclosed by board advisor Shaun Harvey.
Wrexham’s profile has grown significantly since the takeover, largely thanks to the exposure brought by the ‘Welcome to Wrexham’ documentary.
The former EFL chief executive also highlighted a huge growth in the club’s social media following during a keynote speech at the SportNXT conference in Australia.
Wrexham is a success story financially and online
Speaking during the event in Melbourne, Harvey said: “The main reason for ownership was the town’s history and to provide hope to the town whilst offering something the community could get behind.
“The social media growth has been astronomical from 2020 to 2024, seeing an increase from 152,000 to 3,981,747 across all platforms.”
Discussing Wrexham’s value, he said: “It is worth nothing (that) it is an investment that has paid off. Now worth nine million pounds.”
Reynolds and McElhenney are well-known for not taking themselves too seriously, with the pair regularly releasing hilarious videos on social media to promote the club and its sponsors.
They have also donated to good causes in Wrexham and sought to raise the profile of community projects.
