Vincent Kompany - Burnley

Burnley boss Vincent Kompany explains why The Four Key Players will Miss The Game against Chelsea

Vincent Kompany is adamant that it wasn’t a “big decision” to drop James Trafford in favour of Arijanet Muric.

Trafford was dropped for the first time this season, having previously been the only Burnley player to play in every minute of every league game.

Kompany has previously ignored calls from supporters to make the change, but he finally made the switch on Saturday during the 2-1 win against Brentford.

It proved to be a highly popular one with the Clarets faithful, who chanted “MURIC” during regular intervals during Saturday’s game.

The change paid off, with the Kosovan stopper making a real difference with his pinpoint long balls forward and the quickness of his distribution out from the back.

The 25-year-old also made some key stops, one in particular when he stood tall to deny Yoane Wissa one-on-one.

The only slight complaint is that he looked nervy during the nine minutes of stoppage time as the Bees threw the ball into the box again and again.

But all in all, Muric performed well and looks likely to keep hold of the number one shirt for the game against Chelsea on the return from the international break.

“Aro was good, he was really good,” Kompany said.

“It’s one of the positions where I have the luxury of having two good players, so at any given time I can make a decision that I think is best for the team.

“It’s not a big decision, it’s not a difficult decision, it’s just two good players fighting it out and I won’t shy away from having that luxury in as many positions as I can.”

Chelsea will take on Manchester City in the FA Cup semi-final after dispatching Leicester City at Stamford Bridge on Sunday.

The unusual reason why Arijanet Muric will be unavailable for Burnley's trip to Arsenal next week

After being beaten by Liverpool in the Carabao Cup, Mauricio Pochettino’s men will now target glory in the competition. Ben Chilwell returned to action against Leicester coming on late in the second half for Marc Cucurella, while Benoit Badiashile was named as an unused substitute on the bench.

Enzo Fernandez, meanwhile, was absent through suspension but will return against Burnley after the international break. However, there are still numerous absentees for head coach Pochettino to contend with.

Chelsea’s players will get much-needed recovery time during the international break, with their next Premier League match coming on Saturday, March 30 (3pm). With that said, football.london takes a look at the latest from the Blues’ treatment room.
