Alan Shearer shares ‘ridiculous’ relegation verdict in new Luton Town admission But Unfortunately…

Luton Town will only be able to dodge relegation from the Premier League should both Nottingham Forest and Everton be hit with point deductions, according to Alan Shearer.

The Hatters drew 1-1 with Nuno Espirito Santo’s side on Saturday (16 March) to leave themselves three points adrift of the Toffees heading into the March international break and Sean Dyche’s side have a game in hand.

Both Everton and Forest could be hit with a point deduction for breaching the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules and Shearer believes Luton will be relying on that punishment because they concede a “ridiculous” amount of goals.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football (18 March) he said: “We keep saying about Luton and Rob Edwards, they concede a ridiculous amount of goals and that’s evident for everyone to see, but they do score and make it difficult for you at times.

They’re organised, they know what they’re doing putting balls into the box and they know a system that works for them, it’s at the other end that’s their problem. I think only what happens with Nottingham Forest and Everton [can keep them up].”

When will Everton be given their second point deduction and could it relegate them?

It is getting tight at the foot of the Premier League, but Dyche’s side couldn’t have asked for a better result at the weekend. They may not have played, but a draw between Forest and Luton helps their survival bid massively.

However, Dyche needs to start picking up results sooner rather than later because the Toffees’ recent run of form in the Premier League has been nowhere near good enough, especially since the turn of the year.

It remains to be seen if Everton will be hit with a second point deduction and there is an expectation that the Toffees’ next punishment will be more sensible than the original 10-point deduction, but the Blues can’t rely on other team’s poor form.

Hopefully, the international break give Dyche a chance to get his plan back in place at Goodison and Everton will be able to return from the break in better form and secure their place in the Premier League.
