Blackburn Rovers Star Tipped To Make £25 Million Premier League Switch after denied the playing time well deserved but Sadly…
Blackburn Rovers star Sammie Szmodics is having a fine season at Ewood Park and one pundit has tipped the attacker for a big-money move to the Premier League this summer.
The Lancashire outfit have had a subpar season as a whole and are locked in a tight-knit relegation scrap with just nine games to go in the campaign. According to Opta’s latest projects, Blackburn have the toughest run-in out of all 24 teams in the division but still only have a 27.5% chance of being relegated this term.
Since succeeding Jon Dahl Tomasson in the dugout, John Eustace has yet to guide his team to a victory in eight matches, although the former Premier League champions have managed to draw five times and took Newcastle United all the way in the FA Cup recently, losing on penalties after extra time.
The one shining light for Blackburn Rovers this season has been Szmodics. The 28-year-old has scored 21 goals in the Championship and is the league’s top scorer by a margin of three. This is his best goalscoring season at any club in his career, having previously bagged 25 goals during the 2020/21 campaign with Peterborough United in League One.
Szmodics is still under contract with Rovers until the summer of 2026, although the club have the option to extend his deal by a further year, with his market value currently sitting at just under £4 million, as per Transfermarkt.
However, EFL pundit and Sheffield Wednesday legend Carlton Palmer believes that Szmodics’ true price tag lies somewhere between £15-20 million. Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said:
“Would he be good for Brentford? Would he be good for Luton? He’s 28 years old, he’s a very, very good player who can come off, hold the ball, and can go in behind.
“At 28, he is under contract until the summer of 2026, and should Blackburn get a serious offer, which I would deem to be in the £15m- £20m mark for a player who’s scoring those types of goals in the Championship, it would be difficult for Blackburn Rovers to turn that down.
“The player at 28 hasn’t got time on his side, so to be able to play in the Premier League would be a great opportunity for him.”

On the one hand, Szmodics still has two, or potentially three years remaining on his deal at Ewood Park so Blackburn Rovers can hold out for whatever price they like, provided the club manages to stay in the Championship for another season.
However, it’s hard to see any team willing to offer £20 million for a player who is going to turn 29 in September, particularly one who is unproven in the top-flight. Nevertheless, it could be a steal if Szmodics can manage to translate this form to the Premier League.
