Giants Set To Debut Their Newest Star
The San Francisco Giants are hoping for a much better 2024 season.
But, it will not be easy with the look of their roster and the division that they play in.
The Giants did not do much this offseason to improve their team.
But, one move they did make was to improve their biggest weakness.
That is on defense.
The Giants were the worst defensive team in baseball last season.
So the signing of Matt Chapman to play third base should help fix that.
Chapman comes to San Francisco on a three-year deal.
According to B/R Walk-Off, he will make his spring training debut on Thursday night against the Dodgers.
hapman is a great defensive player and a quality hitter.
This was a good addition for the Giants.
In two of the last three seasons, Chapman has won a Gold Glove.
Also, he has hit 27 home runs in two of his last three seasons.
Chapman has a few holes in his game as a hitter.
He strikes out far too much (28.4% strikeout rate in 2023) and he hits for a low batting average (.240 career batting average).
Still, his power and defensive ability are what had to intrigue the Giants.
Even with this signing, the Giants will have their work cut out for them this season.
The NL West is home to the best team in baseball (Dodgers) and the reigning NL Champions (Diamondbacks).
The Giants will need a lot of things to go right to be able to jump either of those teams.
Even if the Giants are not a playoff team in 2024, they are at least making moves to be competitive.
