Ronald Acuña Jr. is back smiling and cracking jokes amidst being sidelined
All of Braves country has been holding their breath for the last couple of days. Ronald Acuna Jr. allows us to exhale.
Ronald Acuña Jr. was scratched from the lineup on March 1st due to discomfort in his right knee. The Braves stated that it was a precautionary measure and that the discomfort was simply soreness. It’s the same knee he injured back in 2021, so there were still some concerns.
Atlanta received the best news possible on Tuesday morning. It turns out that there is some irritation in his right knee but he is on schedule to be ready to go for Opening Day of 2024.
If this news isn’t encouraging enough for you, maybe these typical Ronald Acuna Jr. antics will give you some relief. Alden Gonzalez, an ESPN baseball reporter, posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) Tuesday morning that Acuna walked towards him using his bat as a cane. Acuna Jr. proceeded to laugh and start walking normally before stating that he feels fine and wants to be back in the lineup today.
The MVP still likes to crack jokes
We all know that Acuna is a fierce competitor and wants to be on the field all the time. Keeping him sidelined for a little longer during Spring Training is absolutely the right move for the time being so he will be ready to go for the 2024 regular season.
When Ronald Acuna Jr. is on the baseball field, he knows one speed, and that is full speed. Him playing in any capacity right now in Spring Training could run the risk of increasing that irritation. As the season approaches, this is something to keep an eye on.
Given the type of discomfort this is causing in the knee, this could keep Acuna from stealing as many bases or decrease his range in the outfield if he is not 100%. However, the early news is that his knee will not create any limitations for him come Opening Day. It is nice to know that Acuna can have such humor over something that is causing many people distress.
