Sean Dyche needs to drop £20m Everton player vs Man United, the experiment has failed

Everton are back in Premier League action again this weekend, seeking to finally claim that long-awaited first win since the turn of the year.

It has been a troubling few opening months for Sean Dyche’s side, who have been goal-shy and not quite solid enough to justify such a lack of proficiency.

That is, despite the 52-year-old boss opting to pack his backline with defence-first defenders, rather than anyone with an expansive mindset.

Ben Godfrey has deputised well at right-back in particular, but it cannot be denied that he blunts their attack.

After all, he is a centre-back by trade.

He must be ditched this weekend anyway.

How good has Ben Godfrey been for Everton of late?

It would be disingenuous to simply suggest that the £20m ace should be removed from the squad without first acknowledging his fine form when he has been called upon.

Being brought into the side sparingly earlier in the season, the absence of Nathan Patterson, Seamus Coleman and Ashley Young created a perfect opportunity for the athletic star to recapture a starting spot.

He took that opportunity with both hands.

Boasting 2.5 tackles, 2.9 clearances and 2.8 ball recovers per game in the league, he has been resolute and relentless as a defensive asset for Dyche. However, his 67% pass accuracy merely scratches the surface of his offensive struggles, via Sofascore.

Although it might seem farfetched, perhaps their attacking woes are actually stemming from this lack of impetus coming from deep.

Who could Sean Dyche replace Ben Godfrey with?

Those three aforementioned names are the trio seeking to displace Godfrey and are likely better value for a spot in the side.

Coleman surely marks the outstanding option, as an experienced ace with both defensive and offensive intelligence.
