Texas Rangers Remain in Jordan Montgomery Mix Despite Red Sox Predictions

MLB team executives widely believe that two-time Cy Young winner Blake Snell will ultimately sign with the Los Angeles Angels or possibly the San Francisco Giants, while Texas Rangers’ postseason hero Jordan Montgomery will wind up with the Boston Red Sox.

The Red Sox have kept in constant contact with Montgomery while the Rangers are keeping tabs if owner Ray Davis suddenly changes his mind.

The Rangers’ position is financial, even though the club should see a revenue bump at the box office coming off the franchise’s first title. Also, the loss of broadcast revenue isn’t as severe as expected despite the bankruptcy proceedings of Bally Sports parent company Diamond Sports Group. Broadcast rights beyond 2024 are unclear.

Texas could sure use Montgomery in the rotation, especially as the club awaits the returns of Max Scherzer, Jacob deGrom and Tyler Mahle later this summer. The current rotation is headlined by Nathan Eovaldi, Jon Gray, Andrew Heaney and Dane Dunning.
