Blackburn Rovers team news with three doubts for Swansea

Blackburn Rovers will have to assess Ryan Hedges, Sondre Tronstad and Sam Gallagher for their trip to Swansea City.

Gallagher was taken off at half-time against Newcastle United with a calf problem. The striker was ruled out with a similar issue for almost five months earlier in the season.

Eustace insists the problem is not serious but he could miss the trip to South Wales on Saturday. Considering the high volume of minutes he’s played recently and the two home games next week, he could sit out this match.

Similarly, Hedges remains a doubt after picking up a groin issue against Norwich City. He lasted only 15 minutes, missed the Newcastle game, and will be assessed at the weekend, as will Tronstad who missed Tuesday with an ankle injury.

Everyone seems pretty healthy after Tuesday night,” Eustace said.

“Hedges wasn’t available for the game on Tuesday and we will be assessing him.

“Obviously Gally we are still assessing too. It is not as bad as we first thought. I’m not sure if he’ll be available a the weekend but it is certainly not a long-term thing.

“There are a lot of the group that are tired. We have played seven games in 18 days or so. It’s been a hell of a lot of football, the lads have gone through the barrier.

“It’s about using the squad, the lads have worked their socks off. It’s about assessing who is fittest and who is available.”

The bad news for Rovers is that John Fleck is set for a longer period out and may have to undergo surgery.

The midfielder came off on his debut against Preston North End with a calf problem and was initially ruled out for two to three weeks.

However, Eustace has now revealed there are discussions about whether he needs surgery which would rule him out for a longer period of time.

“Flecky looks like he might have to have an operation on his leg so that is something we are discussing at the moment,” Eustace said.

“Hopefully it won’t be too bad. He will be out for the next couple of weeks. I hope he will be back soon and get it fixed.

“He has come to this football club with huge experience and he’s a very good player at this level.

“I think even the first 15 minutes at Preston, you could see his value to the team and to the squad. He will be a miss but I hope we can get him back sooner rather than later.”
