Former LSU QB Jayden Daniels to meet with two teams in top three of NFL Draft
Jayden Daniels is coming off a Heisman Trophy campaign for the LSU Tigers and there are plenty of NFL evaluators who believe he could be a top-five pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Anything can happen between the scouting combine, which is this week, and the time commissioner Roger Goodell announces the start of the draft, which kicks off on April 25. But some recent clues suggest that the lofty projections for Daniels are accurate.
In fact, Daniels is having formal meetings with five teams over the next few days, and two of those teams are in the top three of the draft.
The Washington Commanders have the No. 2 overall pick and need a quarterback, and the same can be said for the New England Patriots, who have the No. 3 overall pick.
Most draft prognosticators consider USC quarterback Caleb Williams the top quarterback prospect in the draft, but Daniels could very well be the second-best behind Williams. If not him, other NFL talking heads like quarterback Drake Maye out of North Carolina.
So, there’s absolutely a world in which Daniels would be drafted by the Commanders or Patriots, depending on where Williams goes. And if he falls out of the top five, he could easily be picked up by the other teams mentioned in the report. The New York Giants have pick No. 6, the Minnesota Vikings have pick No. 11 and the New Orelans Saints have pick No. 14.
Daniels threw for 3,812 yards, 40 touchdowns and four interceptions last season while also rushing for 885 yards and 11 touchdowns.
