Southampton’s Stephens stresses importance of fast reaction to defeats
SAINTS captain Jack Stephens insists they must make sure their recent bad run is only a “blip” to give themselves the best chance of promotion back to the Premier League.
Saints have a problem” – Pundit issues Southampton transfer prediction amid Tottenham interest
Kyle Walker-Peters has been one of Southampton’s standout stars this season, but it could potentially be his last in the red and white stripes
Football pundit Carlton Palmer has had his say on Tottenham Hotspur’s rumoured interest in their former full-back – and current Southampton player – Kyle Walker-Peters.
The Saints’ promotion hopes have taken a beating over the last four league games.
Prior to their 3-1 loss to Bristol City, Russell Martin’s team hadn’t lost since the September 23 last year.
Now though, they have been defeated in three of their last four games, including in the aforementioned clash with the Robin, with their most recent loss being to a relegation-battling side in Millwall.
Southampton have given themselves quite a gap to overcome if they want to leapfrog Leeds United or Ipswich Town by the end of the season, but they look nailed on to get into the play-offs at the very least.
The club’s promotion back to the Premier League could affect the next steps of many of their top players.
Walker-Peters is one of those whose future is up in the air, and the former England international is being looked at by some Premier League sides, including his former team Spurs, who are said to be looking for someone who could play on either side of the defence, as per Graeme Bailey.
And Tottenham have a buy-back clause inserted into the deal that took him to Southampton in the first place, and it was widely reported in 2022 by The Athletic that the valuation of that was £30 million.
