Leicester City manager Enzo Maresca has provided an update on Jamie Vardy after the striker picked up an injury in training before their trip to Leeds United on Friday night.
Leicester City looked have already secured a place in the top two, but back-to-back defeats now means second-placed Leeds United and third-placed Ipswich Town are both just six points behind the Foxes in the table.
The defeat at Elland Road earlier this week was a huge blow to Leicester City’s title hopes, and to make matters worse they were without their star man Vardy.
Four goals in his last four games means he is one of the most in-form players in the Championship, but an injury in training means he could be out for a significant period of time.
Speaking to Leicestershire Live, manager Maresca confirmed that although he wasn’t sure exactly how long he wouldn’t be available, it is likely to be ‘a while’.
“I don’t know. He will be out for a while. I don’t know exactly how long,” he stated.
A blow but Leicester City have enough
Leicester City have had a wobble but they have undoubtedly been the strongest side in the division this season. Regardless of whether they have Vardy fit and available, they should have enough to get over the line and secure promotion.
The Foxes have Patson Daka, Tom Cannon and Kelechi Iheanacho to pick from, all of which would get into the majority of teams in the second tier. Therefore, they do have a plethora of options in Vardy’s absence.
