49ers Enterprises get £190m Leeds United warning about Premier League spending spree
Daniel Farke has made it clear what he feels is needed if Leeds United are promoted from the Championship this season after learning the hard way with Norwich City
Big money must be spent on Leeds United recruitment and contract extensions if they win promotion and hope to survive in the Premier League. Daniel Farke has dropped his clearest hint yet on what 49ers Enterprises needs to do if the club is released from the EFL’s shackles in May.
The German steered Norwich City to two of the past five Championship titles and some eyebrows were raised when he agreed to return to England’s second tier for a fourth campaign last summer. The message to chairman Paraag Marathe and Elland Road’s board could not have been clearer today. Leeds, if they win promotion, will need to spend big if they hope to survive and retain their Premier League status.
Farke had been asked how important the Championship title was to teams when promotion was, effectively, the be-all and end-all for ambitious sides in the second tier.
“That’s (promotion) the basic target and the most important topic,” he said. “It’s nice to lift some silverware. Thank God I’ve got this feeling because it’s also a very, very traditional league and a very, very famous cup
