Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested the Premier League don’t know how to close the “can of worms” they opened by punishing the Toffees last year.

Everton were docked 10 points in November 2023 after being found guilty of breaching the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) for the 2021-22 campaign.

Potential changes to the punishment could include a reduction in the points deduction, a financial penalty or a transfer ban.

Everton have been hit with another breach of PSR so far in 2024 and that case is expected to be heard before the end of the season.

Wyness told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “There may well be another round of legal action from the club if this isn’t a satisfactory outcome from the appeal.
