Coventry City boss weighs up risk as Victor Torp scan result revealed
Coventry City injury news from CoventryLive as Sky Blues boss reveals result of Victor Torp’s scan ahead of big few days in league and FA Cup
Mark Robins will make a more informed decision today on Victor Torp’s availability for key league and cup games after receiving the results of a scan on the Coventry City midfielder.
The 24-year-old suffered a calf injury at Stoke last week which forced him to withdraw from the game at half-time, and a scan this week has revealed a small tear. However, Robins remains cautiously optimistic and was due to sit down with his medical staff today (Thurs) to discuss the injury and weigh up the chances of risking him when the Sky Blues take on Preston on Friday (7.45pm kick-off).
“Victor is a little bit better,” he said, at today’s pre-match press conference. “He’s not in any pain so he will be looked at this morning and then we will make a decision on him, and there’s always a risk element. So it’s a case of balancing the risk against the potential reward, so we will have a good look at that today.”
Asked if the player has a chance of playing against Preston, he said: “We’re going to have a meeting and make a decision. We’ll get an assessment from the physio and then we can make a decision from that.” And asked about the scan, he added: “It wasn’t clear, he has a small tear in his calf.”
With Ben Sheaf (hamstring) and Jamie Allen (fractured cheekbone) both out for up to six weeks, Josh Eccles and Joel Laibeaudiere are favourites to cover in central midfield. Liam Kelly is another option, albeit the captain has hardly played this season.
Asked if the experienced midfielder is ready if called upon, Robins revealed: “Kels has had a foot issue. He had an infection in a cut and he has been managing that because he’s been in a bit of pain from it, although he’s much, much better, so from that perspective he’s in a good place.
“But he hasn’t played for a while and that in itself means he just needs a little bit of time. But with Kels you know that he just gets into a rhythm when he plays, so it’s just getting into that rhythm. But he’s now available and ready, and his foot has cleared up.”
