Rangers’ Emotional Engine Adolis García Ready To Do It Again
SURPRISE, Ariz. — It went down to the wire, but in the end, Adolis García was a happy man. The Texas Rangers right fielder was all smiles on Monday after reporting for spring training. García signed a two-year, $14 million deal with the club earlier this month to avoid an arbitration hearing in the final hours. “It was close,” Garcia said with a smile. “Yeah, nobody wants to do that. But we we did it right. I’m so glad that happened to get the agreement. I’m very happy to be here, so happy with all that happened last year and this offseason. And the same goes for this year. Same goal: win and do the best I can for the team.”
García, who turns 31 on March 2, said he is “grateful to be part of this team for the next two years.” The oblique injury that knocked him out of Game 3 of the World Series is fine, he said. “I feel healthy, good, ready to go,” the ALCS MVP said. “I think I will be ready on time.” García is something of the club’s emotional sparkplug, which was evident during his record 22-RBI postseason. He also led the Rangers with 107 RBI during the regular season.
“I enjoy it,” he said. “My team, our coaching staff, they believe in me and trust me. I just try to give the energy back. I’ll help my team to be better and every day try to get the win. How we play and how we are in the clubhouse, you can tell we are a family. I always say we are more than friends and teammates, you know; that’s why this team is so special.”
