Washington Commanders Predicted To Draft Intriguing QB in Best Case Scenario

The Washington Commanders are going to pick second in the 2024 NFL Draft, and it’s almost certain that they are going to draft a quarterback. The questions is: Who will they pick between Jayden Daniels and Drake Maye with Caleb Williams expected to go first to the Chicago Bears?

Based on the recent reports and mock drafts, it looks like the Commanders are set to select Daniels over Maye in the upcoming rookie selection.

Washington Commanders’ Best Case Scenario

In a recent article by Gary Davenport of Bleacher Report. drafting Daniels was labeled as the “best case scenario” for the Commanders this offseason.

They could really use a quarterback, and Daniels seems to be the best fit for them. While Davenport noted that Daniels is the “riskier” selection over Maye, there’s no denying that he’s the kind of quarterback that Washington really needs to bring the team back to relevance.

An  argument can be made that while Daniels’ ceiling in undeniable, he is a riskier pick than Maye. But the Commanders were terrible in 2023. This is a team (and a fanbase) that needs a jolt of excitement. Daniels will provide that on Sundays,” Davenport wrote.

Daniels won the 2023 Heisman Trophy, so the talent and skills are definitely there. He finished his five-year collegiate career (three in Arizona and two in LSU) with a total of 12,750 yards and 89 touchdowns against 20 interceptions.

In his Heisman-winning season this past 2023, he tallied career-bests 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns against four interceptions.

Why the Washington Commanders Will Draft Jayden Daniels

There are concerns about Daniels’ built and reckless playing style. However, it’s hard to deny his elite talent, particularly with his playmaking, rushing ability and accuracy.

With that said, there’s really an argument to be made for Daniels as the second-best QB in the class of 2024.

Field Yates of ESPN even predicted in his latest mock draft that the Commanders take Daniels, highlighting that he could quickly thrive under new head coach Dan Quinn in Washington.

“Daniels did as much as one could possibly do during the 2023 season to boost his draft stock, as he skyrocketed up boards on the heels of 40 touchdown passes, 4 interceptions and 1,230 rushing yards (not including sacks) on his way to the Heisman Trophy,” Yates
