Gareth Ainsworth talk must be quashed amid Schumacher U-Turn claim

Ainsworth has some excellent qualities, but he shouldn’t be replacing Steven Schumacher in Staffordshire anytime soon.

Gareth Ainsworth has been considered as a potential replacement for Steven Schumacher at Stoke City, according to Football Insider.

The Potters have struggled this term and have continued to underwhelm despite the appointment of Schumacher, who was tipped to make a real impact at the bet365 Stadium following such a promising spell at Plymouth Argyle.

It wouldn’t have been easy for him to fill Ryan Lowe’s shoes, but he did it superbly and guided the Pilgrims to the League One title at the end of last term.

Schumacher also made a respectable start to this season at Home Park, ensuring they were sitting above the relegation zone.

But he made the move to Stoke back in December, with the aim of taking the Potters up the Championship table following Alex Neil’s dismissal.

Unfortunately, Stoke failed to get past the third round in the FA Cup, although their loss against Brighton and Hove Albion was no humiliation considering how good the Seagulls are.

More importantly in the league though, they haven’t been that brilliant either.

Making a promising start to life at the bet365 Stadium, Schumacher went unbeaten in his opening five second-tier games in charge.
