Phillies Announce More Roster Moves

Pitchers and catcher reported to Spring Training for the Philadelphia Phillies on Feb. 14. This is the unofficial beginning for the new season as teams have their players back working together on the field within their facilities. With Aaron Nola back, the Phillies should continue to have one of the best starting rotations in the game.

But, outside of getting their ace back, there were no other major additions made and some questions about the validity of their bullpen continue to exist. Philadelphia’s front office will continue searching for some moves they can make before the 2024 season officially begins, but as of now, their roster looks very similar to last year’s. Roster moves continue to take place as the team heads into Spring Training. The Phillies announced on their social media account they designated pitcher McKinley Moore for assignment after agreeing to terms with Spencer Turnbull and adding him to their 40-man roster.

Moore only has made three appearances in the MLB, allowing seven earned runs on five hits across 3 1/3 innings pitched. Philadelphia got some good news when two players they designated for assignment in early February cleared waivers and were outrighted to their Triple-A affiliate. Relief pitcher Andrew Bellatti and outfielder Simon Muzziotti will attend Spring Training as non-roster invites.

Bellatti had a good first year with the Phillies in 2022 after posting an ERA of 3.31 in 59 appearances, but he struggled last season with a 5.11 ERA and was sent down to the minors. The hope is the right-hander can bounce back this year and give them another boost in their bullpen.
