Former Everton chief Keith Wyness has warned the Premier League could become a “battle of the budgets” as the Toffees’ legal bills rack up.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – suggested it is “possible” the Merseysiders will breach financial rules again due to spiralling legal bills.
Everton were charged with a breach of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) last year and were subsequently handed a 10-point deduction.
The Toffees appealed that decision, with a final verdict on their punishment expected in the coming days.
Sean Dyche’s side were also been charged with a separate breach of PSR rules in January – meaning another potential punishment is incoming.
Laurence Rabinowitz KC has been appointed by the Goodison Park club to handle the situation.
