Eustace provides fitness update on three Blackburn players
Joe Rankin-Costello suffered a knee injury in the first half against Birmingham City whilst John Buckley and Scott Wharton could return against Preston North End.
Blackburn Rovers were forced into an early change at St Andrew’s with the midfielder taken off after failing to recover from an earlier knock.
Rankin-Costello is not long back from a long-term hamstring injury and John Eustace explained that he jarred his knee. Hopefully, that means it will be an impact injury and therefore won’t be anything too concerning ahead of a bust run of matches.
“Yeah, he jarred his knee during the first 20 minutes,” Eustace said.

“It was a big loss for us. Young Jake (Garrett) came on and did well, got some good minutes for him. To lose Joe so early was disappointing.”
Wharton and Buckley were both absent from the matchday squad after being ill last week. Eustace explained that the pair trained for the first time on Monday and should be in contention to play against Preston North End at the weekend.
“Yeah hopefully, they trained for the first time yesterday,” he explained.
“Hopefully, they’ll get another couple of good days in before the game on Saturday.”
