Mike Zimmer Drops Guarantee After Reaching Agreement To Join Former Green Bay Packers Coach
Nearly two decades since he left the Dallas Cowboys coaching staff, Mike Zimmer is back with the NFC East division franchise to be its defensive coordinator under former Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy. After news broke out on Monday that Zimmer was indeed going to resume his NFL coaching career with a reunion with the Cowboys, he gave his word that he would do whatever he could to put
“I’m excited and honored to be back with a great organization,” Zimmer told ESPN’s Ed Werder. “I’m thrilled to work with Mike McCarthy, for whom I have had a ton of respect in our NFC North days, and to do anything I can do to help the Joneses and the Cowboys.”
A Former Green Bay Packers Rival Will Now Work Alongside Mike McCarthy
Green Bay Packers fans are quite familiar not just with McCarthy, of course, but with Zimmer. After all, Zimmer spent several years coaching one of the Packers’ chief rivals, the Minnesota Vikings, from 2014 to 2021. In eight years as coach of the Vikings, Minnesota went 76-52-1 in the regular season and 2-3 in the NFL playoffs.
Zimmer takes over the role recently vacated by Dan Quinn, who parted ways with the Cowboys to be the next head coach of the Washington Commanders.
