Travis Kelce says Mecole Hardman is ‘one his favorite teammates ever’ after the Jets ‘counted him out’ by trading him back to Kansas City this season… as Chiefs wide receiver scored the Super Bowl-winning touchdown
Travis Kelce said Mecole Hardman is ‘one of his favorite teammates ever’ after the Chiefs wide receiver caught the Super Bowl-winning touchdown on Sunday against the 49ers.
Kelce’s reasoning is that Hardman ‘keeps showing up’ when everyone counts him out, including his former team, the New York Jets.
Hardman was drafted by Kansas City in 2019 and was signed by New York as a free agent last year.
His time with the Jets was brief, only catching a single pass before he was traded back to the Chiefs last October.
Four months after the trade, Hardman caught the Super Bowl-ending touchdown.
Man, I couldn’t be happier for my guy man,’ Kelce said about Hardman. ‘It brought me to tears seeing that he was the man that he was the man that got us this ring. Sometimes the media world can be harsh on a guy.’
‘Mecole, he’s one of my favorite teammates ever just because he keeps showing up,’ Kelce continued. ‘And he keeps trying to find ways to win. Had a huge play for us early on that kind of sparked us, and on top of that, found a way to win the game for us.’
‘When everybody counted him out, even the Jets counted him out, and we were so excited when he got back in the building because he’s the kind of guy that brings everybody together,’ Kelce added. ‘He’s got that kind of personality.’
Hardman’s reunion with Kelce and co. in Kansas City means he is now a three-time Super Bowl champion.
Hardman’s effort for the Chiefs resonated outside the team locker room as well, sharing a long on-field hug after the victory with Kelce’s girlfriend, 14-time Grammy Award winner Taylor Swift.
A sixth-round pick is all the Jets received by dealing Hardman to Kansas City, with the Chiefs also receiving a seventh-round pick in the swap.
Now, New York looks like it got fleeced by giving back one of Kelce’s favorites.
