Milwaukee Brewers: 30 Year Old Flamethrower Projected As 2024 Breakout Reliever

The Milwaukee Brewers love hard throwing pitchers who can strike batters out.  They also have a reputation for finding pitchers that they like, having them put some work in their super secret pitching lab, and then watching them blossom.  A season ago 30 year old Trevor MeGill showed potential to be another one of these success stories and now entering 2024 he is in position to be an under the radar breakout reliever.

MLB writer lists Trevor MeGill as an under the radar breakout reliever for the 2024 season.

On MLB Network Mike Petriello discussed Trevor MeGill as a breakout reliever.  Fangraphs steamer projections have him listed in the top 15.  His fastball and curveball combination is deadly and he struck out 35% of batters faced last year with the Brewers.

How hard does Trevor MeGill throw?

As a Brewer last year he averaged 99.1 mph and touched triple digits 98 different times.  Just two years prior, with the Chicago Cubs, his fast ball average was at 94 MPH.  Interestingly MeGill credited the Minnesota Twins, who he was with in 2022 and part of 2023, as the organization responsible for the velocity increase as he said, “the Twins have done a great job of really just making me understand myself and my body and everything. So there’s a big factor that they put into the equation.”

On April 30, 2023 the Brewers acquired Trevor MeGill for a player to be named later.  Pitching prospect Taylor Floyd ended up being the player to be named later.  During MeGill’s first year with Milwaukee he was shuttled between the major and minor leagues frequently, but eventually found his groove in the big leagues as he had a 2.12 ERA over the final two months of the season.
