Richard Keys rages at ‘shocker’ in Nottingham Forest vs Newcastle after Nuno anger
Nottingham Forest were denied a penalty in Saturday’s defeat to Newcastle United
Richard Keys has labelled Anthony Taylor’s decision not to award Nottingham Forest a penalty in their 3-2 loss to Newcastle United as a “shocker”.
Nuno Espirito Santo’s side suffered defeat at the City Ground in controversial circumstances on Saturday night as Taiwo Awoniyi was denied a penalty despite Martin Dubravka’s arms bringing the Forest forward to the ground. The incident occurred with the game evenly poised at 2-2.
Writing in his weekly column on Monday, Keys questioned VAR’s decision-making process that led to Taylor waving away the home side’s appeal for a spot kick.
“Antony Taylor had a shocker at Forest. What was it he didn’t see when Dubravka took Awoniyi down? It was a pen. Taylor was actually looking at it. VAR froze – of course they did,” wrote Keys.
Speaking in his post-match interview at the City Ground, Espirito Santo described the incident as a “clear penalty” and admitted he “couldn’t understand the decision”.
“I saw it over and over again, for me it is a clear penalty,” said Forest boss, Espirito Santo. “I think Anthony Taylor maybe doesn’t have a clear view of the incident because it is from behind but when you have the chance for VAR to check it, I think it is so obvious, that is why I don’t understand the decision.
