The Philadelphia Eagles made a surprising move on Sunday before the Super Bowl. The team has granted permission for one of their best defenders to seek a trade this offseason.

HC Nick Sirianni comes into 2024 on the hot seat

The Eagles have a big offseason coming up. Head coach Nick Sirianni will head into the 2024 season on the hot seat after his team lost six of their final seven games to end their campaign. The Eagles defense did not play as well during the 2023 season after losing a few key players from the 2022 team that made the Super Bowl.

They could lose another key player from that defense for the 2024 season.

Eagles' Haason Reddick has a message to the team: Pay me or trade me - nj.com

According to Ian Rapoport with the NFL Network, the Eagles permitted Haason Reddick to seek a trade.

Per Mike Garafolo, many analysts believed Reddick would have pushed for an extension before the 2023 season following his 16-sack season in 2022. The All-Pro pass rusher recorded 11 sacks for the 2023 season, enough for Reddick to earn his second straight Pro Bowl nomination.

According to Over The Cap, the Eagles have just over $20 million in cap space for the 2024 season before the start of free agency next month. However, spending that money on an extension for Reddick might not be a priority for the Eagles this offseason.

The Eagles have plenty of other holes to fill on the roster for next season, and the draft capital they can receive for Reddick could help the team long term.

Reddick’s backup last season was Nolan Smith, who the Eagles took in the first round of last year’s draft. The Eagles will hope Smith can take a giant leap for the next season.
