Ben House scored his first goal of the season early in the second-half, with Lasse Sorensen soon giving his side the lead.

Skubala said: “People perhaps expected us to get a result which brings a different type of pressure, but we knew it was going to be a tough game. We knew how well they set up without the ball and were caught on the counter (for their goal). However, I was impressed with the second half and how we dominated, stayed calm and created chances. In the end, the quality showed.

“It’s not easy to play against ten men, who stay compact and wait for set-pieces and transitions, as we know through what we did away at Burton. It’s not an easy thing mentally as you have to keep calm and manage the game, which we did brilliantly. At times, we created good chances but we also still defended well and won second balls.

“There were some huge performances out there again. I thought Ted Bishop was brilliant but to a man, we performed well again in the second-half. The group is in a really good place, they have a great desire to do well.

“It was a tough game as it was quite direct, but the midfield three managed the game really well, allowing the front players to go and do the damage.”

Talking about the goals in the second-half, he added: “It’s the quality of those players and the experience they have. They were calm against ten men, didn’t force things and waited for the moments.”

Adam Jackson came off injured in the closing stages, and Skubala updated on the centre-back after the game.

He said: “We think it could be a broken nose, and we’ll see how he is ready for Tuesday. It may be a tough turnaround for him. We’ll wait and see.”

The head coach also explained why Ethan Hamilton and Freddie Draper weren’t in the matchday squad.

He said: “After Burton, Ethan felt something in his knee, and we took him to a specialist to wash that out. It could be a few days, so we’ll have to wait and see regarding whether he makes Tuesday.

“It’s the same with Freddie, who rolled his ankle in training.”

Skubala concluded with praise for the Imps fans, with more than 8,000 home supporters in the stadium for the win, which was also the club’s grassroots day.

He said: “When we were 1-0 down, the fans were amazing. You could hear them pushing the team and I want to give them great credit, with the grassroot kids in as well getting behind us. It was a brilliant win, as it’s not easy to play against ten men. The fans played a massive part in that.”
