Well, it would appear that Keane still values the time he spent at the City Ground – and he grew up looking up to three star men.

Keane has picked out Stuart Pearce, Des Walker and Nigel Clough when discussing the influences on his time at Forest.

It won’t come as too much of a surprise that he chose those three but Keane has spoken fondly about the trio.

After Gary Neville had been suggesting that at Manchester United, he simply needed an opportunity, Keane jumped in.

He told The Rest is Football podcast: “You mention it Gary, the club you come into, I came to Forest and I was working with Brian Clough. He threw me straight in, you need that opportunity – someone to take a chance on you.

“The dressing room I walked into you need the senior players to lead by example. I can’t praise Stuart Pearce enough, what a top pro he was. If I can’t learn from him…Des Walker, he was a different personality but players like him. Nigel Clough was another who epitomises what being a professional footballer is all about.”

Keane one of the all-time City Ground heroes

Okay, so Keane’s time at Forest was short-lived and he eventually joined Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson pipped Blackburn to his signature and Keane won pretty much everything there was to win at Old Trafford.

Keane is still worshipped at Forest though and he actually won a place in the club’s all-time eleven as voted for by the supporters.

The pundit has spoken fondly of Forest in the past since the club won promotion to the Premier League.

He’s also worked as an assistant manager at the club, joining Martin O’Neill for the second half of the 2018/19 campaign.

It’s great to hear Keane speak about Pearce, Walker and Clough in a complimentary fashion and all three are legends of the football club.
