Hackett to take confidence from gritty win

Reeco Hackett believes City can take a lot of confidence from their performance against Burton Albion after his strike sealed all three points for the Imps.

City were dealt a blow in the first-half when Alex Mitchell was dismissed after receiving two yellow cards, but Hackett’s strike saw them defy the odds to rubber-stamp a first victory of 2024.

Hackett said: “The first 20 minutes were really scrappy, and after the red card the game slowed down a little bit, which probably played into our hands.

“It allowed us to break on the counter and we looked really dangerous and we can take a lot of confidence from that – we can go down to ten and still look like a threat going forward.

“We always had confidence in nicking something here, and the gaffer relayed that to us at half-time. It felt comfortable, it didn’t feel like we were under too much pressure – it was a really good game.

Hackett also explained that City were not feeling the pressure to get a win, with recent performances against Derby County and Peterborough United examples of how the Imps are continuing to improve week by week.

He added: “There hasn’t been much panic in terms of getting a win because we played really well against Derby and Peterborough. We probably should’ve taken three points from Derby so it wasn’t a worry for us.

“Now we’ve got players back in it’s easier to settle in with the gaffer. He’s got the selection of his whole squad more or less now, so you’ll naturally see improvements in the side.”
