Leeds United transfer news: Medical update as winner named in Joe Worrall race

Besiktas have won the race to sign Nottingham Forest centre-back Joe Worrall despite interest from Leeds United.

As per The Athletic (4 February), the defender will undergo a medical before joining the Turkish club on loan for the rest of the season.

Both Sheffield United and the Whites made loan offers for the 27-year-old on transfer Deadline Day [TEAMtalk, 1 February].

Leeds United miss out on Worrall

It seems that Leeds manager Daniel Farke was keen on strengthening the centre of his defence in the winter transfer window.

But a move for Forest captain Worrall did not transpire, with the experienced defender instead opting for a switch to Turkey.

The Whites were perhaps overlooked, as was the case with Bournemouth winger David Brooks, and indeed with Sint-Truiden right-back Daiki Hashioka.

Farke won’t, however, be too disappointed with those transfer failures, with the Whites still strengthening with the loan signature of Connor Roberts from Burnley.

Moreover, his side are already going very strong in the Championship this season, with the Elland Road club currently sitting third in the table.

They are now just one point behind Southampton in second, while league leaders Leicester City remain 12 points clear of the Whites, and 11 clear of the Saints.

But with five wins from their last five matches, Leeds are very much the in-form team in the Championship, with the club keen to continue that momentum in the coming weeks.

In other Leeds United news, OIi McBurnie reacted as the Whites agreed terms for a last-ditch signing, with Pavel Nedved named.
