Everton FC v Chelsea FC - Premier League

Andy Burnham blasts the media in ‘troubling’ claim over Everton points deduction

Everton, were they not backed by some rather influential individuals both in politics and the media, would be fighting their battle against the Premier League alone and in the shadows.

Unable to comment on the proceedings by law, it seems the organisation with which they are at war with has found alternative methods to pump out their propaganda, seemingly leaking information to select journalists who help feed the narrative to the masses.

It is for this reason that many other sides in England hold no sympathy for the Toffees, viewing tribalism over a fight that very much affects them, whether they know it or not.

After all, the precedent set should Everton win would surely see PSR abolished, allowing the likes of Newcastle United and Aston Villa to unleash their financial might on the division.

Andy Burnham is one such name who continues to relentlessly support the club.

What Andy Burnham said about the Premier League

As the Mayor of Greater Manchester, he could be forgiven for staying quiet on a matter that exists outside of his jurisdiction.

However, as a boyhood Evertonian, he has performed admirably in trying to push back against the agenda emerging.

His latest tirade, coming on X just weeks after he had appeared on various Everton podcasts, notes: ‘I won’t forget how little coverage there’s been about @Everton’s points deduction. The biggest penalty in the history of top-flight English football – and the media accept it without question? It says something troubling about the conflicts of interest at the heart of our game.

How have the media silenced Everton’s protests?

There have been various ways in which the media have dangerously silenced Everton in their attempts to push back against this ruling.

Sky Sports have been the biggest perpetrators of this mass censorship, with TNT Sports’ coverage of the game on Saturday putting their competitors to shame.
