49ers' George Kittle in his age 30 season — as explosive as ever and the beating heart of a franchise

San Francisco 49ers Have Disappointing Injury Update For George Kittle Week Before Super Bowl

Friday’s injury report for the San Francisco 49ers Super Bowl bye week doesn’t look promising for tight end George Kittle’s availability next Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefs. Kittle suffered a toe injury during the 49ers over the Detroit Lions in the NFC Championship Game.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Niners head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Kittle is dealing with a toe injury, along with cornerback Ambry Thomas who is nursing an ankle issue. As a result, Kittle and Thomas will be day-to-day as they recover from their health setbacks.

Aside from the two, however, the rest of the 49ers who played during Sunday’s win over the Detroit Lions are healthy, per Nick Wagoner of ESPN.

“49ers CB Ambry Thomas has an ankle injury. TE George Kittle has a toe issue. Both will be day to day as we head toward Super Bowl LVIII, according to Kyle Shanahan. Niners otherwise made it out of Sunday night’s game healthy,” Wagoner reported.

The injury report released Friday is concerning for 49ers fans hoping to see one of the team’s best pass-catchers play against a touch Chiefs’ pass defense. Kittle did not participate in any of the 49ers practices this week. The 49ers gave Kittle an “unspecified” designation for the Super Bowl.

Kittle has another week to recover from his toe injury. However, the fact that Kittle has missed all of the 49ers’ practices this week means he is trending toward not being available for the Super Bowl. The 49ers would like to see Kittle be able to practice at some point next week in Las Vegas.
