Liam Cooper has been linked with a potential move to Ewood Park
Blackburn Rovers and Leeds United have seen contrasting fortunes come their respective ways in the first five months of this Championship season, with both clubs needing to utilise the short period of time that remains in the January transfer window.
Rovers may have progressed into the Fifth Round of the FA Cup on Monday night with a 4-1 success over Wrexham, but it hardly discounts the fact that their league form over the past nine outings has been extremely disappointing, winning just one of those and conceding 22 goals in this time frame.
Unsurprisingly, this run has been the major factor in Jon Dahl Tomasson’s side now possessing the worst defensive record in the division, conceding 53 goals in 28 league games. Therefore, defensive reinforcements have been a must for the Dane across the January window.
After confirming the loan signing of Ben Chrisene from Aston Villa and finally completing the signing of young defender Connor O’Riordan from League Two Crewe Alexandra, there is still work to be done in the final three days of business.
Blackburn Rovers make surprise inquiry
There have been a number of defenders linked with moves to Ewood Park in the previous weeks, including Liverpool’s Nathaniel Phillips, who is on the cusp of joining divisional rivals Cardiff City, as well as Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell.
That was until Rovers, alongside Millwall were dealt a significant blow in their aims of landing the Elland Road academy graduate on a loan deal for the remainder of the campaign after a U-turn was made regarding his future.
However, a surprise report emerged on Tuesday stating that Blackburn have made a “shock inquiry” to the Whites regarding the possibility of taking club captain Liam Cooper on loan.
This comes from Alan Nixon via his Patreon account, claiming that Cooper would be available to leave Leeds on loan if Daniel Farke is successful in his own pursuit of bringing in an extra centre-back, as his side are currently short on cover in this area of the pitch.
