‘Miss out’… Paul Merson boldly claims Pep could drop £225k-a-week Man City ace v Burnley if De Bruyne starts

Manchester City fans are hoping to see Kevin De Bruyne back in the starting XI very soon, after the Belgian recently made his return from injury.

De Bruyne has now made a few appearances off the bench for City, after coming back from hamstring surgery.

The 32-year-old sustained the injury in the club’s first Premier League game of the season against Burnley back in August.

City are the heavy favourites to win on Wednesday, with Burnley scrapping for their lives down in the Premier League relegation zone. With Kompany Job At High Risk

There should be no issues here, with City having found form again after the Club World Cup.

But a professional display is required, and Burnley are sure to try and make things as difficult as possible.

City fans will be very keen to see that teamsheet on Wednesday and whether or not includes De Bruyne.

Pep Guardiola has said the player is now ready to play 90 minutes, so he is certainly in contention. Paul Merson has been looking over what this prospect could mean for other players – and he reckons Phil Foden could actually drop to the bench if De Bruyne starts.

He told Sportskeeda: “They don’t really need him for a winnable home game against Burnley, so I think it’s best if he comes off against tired legs in the second half to get some game time under his belt.

“If De Bruyne does start, I think Phil Foden will be the one to miss out, as Bernardo Silva is too good a player for Guardiola to leave out of the starting XI.”
