Padres News: Blake Snell Looking For Insane Contract, Reportedly Turned Down Offer From Yankees

Will Snell eventually receive the deal he is looking for?

Former San Diego Padres ace Blake Snell remains a free agent this winter, as he hasn’t received a contract offer that he deems acceptable. After winning the National League Cy Young award last season, Snell is looking to cash in on the open market.

He has been linked with a few teams throughout the offseason, but no deal has come close to being done. With MLB super-agent Scott Boras leading the charge for him, Snell is trying to hold out to make sure he gets a deal that he feels represents his ability on the field.

According to USA Today’s Bob Nightengale, Snell has received one contract offer from the New York Yankees. However, it was for far less than he was looking for.

The Yankees have been one of the teams interested in Snell, and they would love to pair him alongside Gerrit Cole in their starting rotation. There have even been reports saying that Cole and star outfielder Aaron Judge pushed the team to sign Snell early in the offseason.

The smoke around Snell heading to the Bronx remains real, but the two sides are far off in contract negotiations. If Snell remains set on getting a deal around the $270 million over nine years that he asked the Yankees for, he could remain on the sidelines for a while.

Eventually, he may need to give in and take a slightly lesser contract. Pitchers and catchers for teams are going to report in the coming weeks, so it’ll be interesting to see how Snell plays this out.
