Manager Mellon expresses optimism for Oldham Athletic

The best is yet to come! That is the message from Oldham Athletic boss Micky Mellon as his side looks to stretch their winning streak at home to Woking tomorrow.

Latics are set to give a debut to newest signing Andrew Dallas, and go into the game (kick-off 3pm) having won four on the spin in the National League.

Mellon has strengthened his squad in January, with Dallas being added to new year recruits Ethan Walker, Sai Sachdev, Tom Conlon and Oliver Hammond.

The Latics boss has been wary of asking too much of the new boys while they build up to full match fitness. But having already been impressed by the impact they have made at Boundary Park, he is relishing the prospect of what they can achieve once they are up to full speed.

“I thought a lot of the performance was good (against Barnet). The exciting thing is I know that we will still improve. We just keep going,” said Mellon, whose side moved up to fifth in the table after beating third placed Barnet for the second time this season in midweek.

“We haven’t honestly got carried away, we came back in on Thursday and it’s just business as usual, trying to keep moving this football club forward.

“We keep getting better, keep improving at everything we are doing as teams, as individuals, as units, getting better at what you are in the team to do – physically, technically, tactically – also gelling as a group. There are a lot of positives.

“We are certainly improving, but I’m excited because I know it’s going to get better, so that’s a good sign.”

Captain Liam Hogan is absent against Woking as he starts a two-match ban for accumulated bookings, but Mellon is looking forward to seeing what Dallas will have to offer.

“He is available on Saturday and will come right into the group,” said the Oldham boss.

“We see his quality in training and his class, so him along with the other boys up front should give us enough firepower to suggest we should score some goals at this level.

“He will be a big addition.”
