Carlton Palmer discusses the situation surrounding Kieffer Moore amid Championship interest
Kieffer Moore is attracting plenty of January transfer interest from Championship clubs.
According to Alan Nixon, Bournemouth would prefer to agree a permanent sale this month rather than a loan deal.
This could be a blow to the likes of Sunderland, Ipswich Town and Cardiff City, who have all been linked with a move for the Wales international.
Moore will likely want to get greater game time in the second half of the season if he is to make Rob Page’s side for his country’s Euro 2024 campaign.
However, his high wages are seen as a potential stumbling block in agreeing to a permanent sale which could prevent a deal from coming to fruition.
Palmer: “Surely sense will prevail”
Carlton Palmer believes that it would make too much sense for Moore to go out on loan for a deal not to happen.
He has praised the striker, and has claimed that any side chasing promotion could use having him in their squad.
“Bournemouth would prefer a permanent transfer for Kieffer Moore to leave the club in January rather than a loan,” Palmer told Football League World.
“This could prove disappointing news for the player and interested parties.
“Kieffer is 31 and commands a salary of around £40,000-a-week.
“Kieffer would prefer to drop down to the Championship to get valuable game time to give him every chance of making Rob Page’s squad for the Euros for Wales in the summer.
“Unfortunately, Ipswich, Sunderland and Cardiff may struggle to pay these kinds of wages and a transfer fee, which would be very unfortunate for the player.
“In the Championship he scored 20 times for Cardiff, has strength and an aerial presence so it’d be appealing to all promotion chasing clubs in the Championship.
“Surely sense will prevail at Bournemouth, and if a permanent deal can’t be made a loan move with a fee will allow the player to leave in January and if he does, well a permanent deal might be stuck in the summer, especially if he gets picked for Wales for the Euros.”
