GET TO KNOW | Arthur Okonkwo - News - Wrexham AFC

PHIL PARKINSON remains hopeful of adding to his squad before the January transfer window closes but he said it was important Wrexham kept hold of their prized assets.

Parkinson has made no secret of the fact he would like to make new signings to give the promotion push a boost with the Reds currently second in League Two, just two points behind leaders Stockport County.

But he is also keen to ensure players aren’t enticed away from The Racecourse and it was announced on New Year’s Day that striker Paul Mullin and midfielder Elliot Lee have both signed contract extensions to the end of the 2026-27 season.

There was more good news this week when Parkinson revealed Arthur Okonkwo, on loan from Arsenal until the end of the season, will definitely remain with the Reds after the recall deadline passed.

“In the transfer window, everybody looks at who we are going to bring in and what signings we are going to make,” said the Reds’ boss.

“But Elliot Lee and Paul Mullin have signed new contracts and we have kept Arthur.

“That is a very good window so far for us.

“If we do make an addition or two, that will be a bonus but sometimes in the window it is make sure you keep what you have got.”

Parkinson is working on bringing fresh faces in and he added: “If the right player comes and the valuation we have on players is in line with what the clubs want then there is that possibility.”

The Reds’ boss feared Okonkwo, who has made 20 appearances in all competitions and been in excellent form, might have caught the eye of other teams but says Arsenal are happy he will continue his development with Wrexham.

“I speak to the loans manager and Arsenal have been brilliant with us,” added Parkinson, preparing for Momday’s FA Cup fourth round tie against Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park.
