AFC Wimbledon v Ramsgate - Emirates FA Cup Second Round

Ipswich Town now looking to ‘thrash out’ deal for 13-goal striker Leeds United also want to sign

Ipswich Town and Leeds United are two of the sides battling it out for automatic promotion but it appears the former may be about to win the race for a signing.

Leeds are yet to make their first foray into the market but are keen on adding to their squad before the deadline a week today, with reinforcements needed at both ends of the pitch.

Daniel Farke himself admitted that another centre-back could come in, while at least one full-back is a necessity. Leeds are also continuing to push for Burnley’s Manuel Benson.

Thanks to the form of Patrick Bamford, and with Joel Piroe only good enough for a spot on the bench at this stage, striker isn’t really an area of the field that will need looking at over the next week.

However, that has not stopped Leeds from being linked with a few, one of them being AFC Wimbledon’s Ali Al-Hamadi, who has scored 13 goals and provided six assists in League Two this season.

Ipswich set to ‘thrash out’ Al-Hamadi deal

Leeds, though, now look increasingly unlikely that they will not sign him with the East Anglian Daily Times reporting Ipswich Town are keen to ‘thrash out’ a deal.

The 21-year-old is currently away at the Asia Cup with Iraq and could be set to go deep into the tournament, having won all three of their group stage matches, including against Japan.

Any club wanting to do a deal for Al-Hamadi will have to pay AFC Wimbledon a record transfer fee, which is somewhere well in excess of £1 million.

Manager Johnnie Jackson has previously claimed his side are not under pressure to sell him this month, but a big offer, coupled with the opportunity of Al-Hamadi playing a top Championship club, will make it tough to turn down.

It appears unlikely Leeds will make any sort of move for Al-Hamadi before the end of the window but they will be hoping, if he does go to Ipswich, that it does not come back to bite them.
