Tonight’s Cardiff City transfer news as Vincent Tan flies in for talks and target closes in on move

Tan jets to Europe

Cardiff owner Vincent Tan is flying to Europe this week to meet with Bluebirds chairman Mehmet Dalman.

It’s no secret this transfer window has not gone wholly according to plan, although the club are confident deals will get done before the February 1 deadline.

It is getting to crunch point now, though, and Cardiff need to get shifting if they are to bolster their squad adequately in the coming days.

A number of topics will be on the table, including transfers and, importantly, Erol Bulut’s contract. The club are hoping to provide more clarity on the manager’s situation with a view to planning a coherent strategy not only for this season but for the coming years.

Bulut signed an initial one-year deal but it is understood the club have an option to trigger a further two.

Ryan Giles closing in on Hull move

Ryan Giles appears to be veering towards a move to Hull City after interest from Cardiff City.

It is understood the Bluebirds were keen to bring the defender back to Cardiff this month and were initially hopeful of getting a deal over the line.

However, Hull have tabled a whopping loan offer which includes an obligation to purchase the player for £4.25million at the end of the campaign.

Cardiff were keen to bolster that left-hand side, with Jamilu Collins needing help and Callum O’Dowda having suffered a setback with regards to his own injury return, but the Daily Mail report Giles is now in talks over a move to Humberside.

Denham recalled

Ollie Denham has been recalled from his loan spell at Dundee United owing to a lack of game time.

The Wales youth international, 21, managed just two appearances for the Scottish club, both in their league cup, and has not kicked a ball in a competitive match since last July.

It is likely the club will look to send the centre-back out on loan again in the second half of the campaign with a view to him getting more senior football under his belt.

He has eight appearances to his name for Cardiff City.

Cardiff have made Japanese defender Ryotaro Tsunoda their first signing of the January transfer window.

The 24-year-old joins the Bluebirds from J1 League side Yokohama F. Marinos, but has already been loaned out to one of Vincent Tan’s other club’s, Belgian outfit KV Kortrijk, until the end of the season to gain experience of European football.

Primarily a centre-half, Tsunoda can also play at left back and last year received a call-up to the Japan national team for the first time.
