Wolves could now be handed late transfer boost in pursuit of £125k-a-week striker
Wolves may well have received a boost in their pursuit of striker Danny Ings, with West Ham United seemingly preparing for life without him.
Ings is thought to be a player on Gary O’Neil’s transfer radar this month.
The Molineux head coach is after a new centre-forward, having already sanctioned the loan exits for Sasa Kalajdzic and Fabio Silva.
Ings is a player who hasn’t been getting many starts this season at West Ham, with Jarrod Bowen and Michail Antonio preferred through the middle.
It was suggested recently that West Ham were set to keep hold on Ings due to injury problems.
But it looks as though Wolves may soon have a clearer run at Ings should they wish to make a move…
West Ham eye Victor Boniface as Wolves consider Danny Ings
The Nigerian striker has been in fine fettle this season, scoring 10 goals for Xabi Alonso’s unbeaten side.
They are pushing to sign him, with David Moyes apparently firmly behind the move, and the club are even prepared to break their transfer record.
It is something that would undoubtedly push Ings towards the exit if it were to happen.
£125,000-a-week man Ings has only played 504 minutes this season and only 133 in the Premier League stretched across 10 appearances.
It has been a frustrating period for him and the speculation about him potentially leaving is no real surprise.
David Moyes fails to say Ings can be a success at West Ham
Ings – described in the past by Declan Rice as ‘a born goalscorer’ – has been with West Ham for a year now, and it has not been a particularly good spell for him at the club.
He’s made 41 appearances and only scored three goals.
He’s struggled to make an impact, but despite this, Moyes has admitted he does like the player. But the Scot was speaking about Ings recently and didn’t really give a very convincing answer when asked if he could be a success for West Ham.
He said (Mirror): “Danny has played his part and he’s probably wanted more minutes than we’ve been able to offer him but there are circumstances that have affected the situation.
“All I can say is, we really like him. He works hard and tries to be the best he can be every day. We’re really supportive of him.”
Seemingly, Moyes isn’t convinced it will work out for Ings, and this could therefore be an invitation for Wolves – especially if the Hammers make progress on Boniface.
