Stoke City's Tyrese Campbell reacts after missing a chance

Steven Schumacher delivers verdict on Stoke City goal threat after Birmingham defeat

Steven Schumacher is confident there are enough goals in the Stoke City changing room after seeing his side beaten in the league for the first time.

Stoke were defending a seven-game unbeaten league run going into a home match against Birmingham but they came unstuck 2-1 despite having the bulk of possession, territory and ranking up 22 shots, including 10 on target.

Schumacher took encouragement from the difference in the chances being created after his first month as head coach – and was asked if he could make the same improvement in terms of chances being put away without heading into the transfer market.

“I think so,” he said. “As I keep saying, I’ve got belief in the squad. The players have got quality, we’ve just got to make the most of those opportunities. I think everyone understands how important it is when you are creating chances at certain moments in the game, like just after they scored and we go through one-on-one and had a big chance to make it 1-1. That would have changed the whole mood around the stadium but we didn’t take it and that’s disappointing.

“But, to answer your question simply, yes I do believe there are enough people in there to score the goals we are going to need.”
