Blackburn Rovers £5 Million Transfer Target “Too Expensive”
Blackburn Rovers are currently on a dismal run of form and are looking to add some quality to the backline this winter before the transfer window closes, according to reports.
A 1-1 draw with relegation-threatened Huddersfield Town at Ewood Park on Saturday afternoon made it seven matches without a victory for the former Premier League champions and meant that the side’s dismal run of form continues.
Furthermore, the Riversiders conceded their 53rd goal of the Championship season as Jon Dahl Tomasson’s men currently boast the worst defensive record in the division and have been letting in an average of 1.89 goals per game so far.
It was previously reported by journalist Alan Nixon earlier in the transfer window that Blackburn Rovers and fellow strugglers Millwall are keeping tabs on Charlie Cresswell’s situation at Leeds United, having recently been left out in the cold by head coach Daniel Farke.
The German manager admitted that Cresswell’s head isn’t in the right place and that the centre-back will not return until he is “mentally ready” to do so. Additionally, it was revealed by the Yorkshire Evening Post that Leeds would consider selling the academy product for between £4-5 million this winter.
Now, Nixon has added a further update to this transfer saga which has seemingly stalled in recent weeks. Replying to a follower on X, formerly known as Twitter, Nixon claimed that Cresswell is “too expensive at this stage” for Blackburn Rovers.
The 21-year-old central defender has made merely six appearances in all competitions for Leeds United this term, including just four in the Championship. The last time he featured for the Elland Road club was back in October in a 1-0 win over Queens Park Rangers, coming off the bench for one whole minute.

Cresswell is a player with plenty of experience in the Championship, having made 30 appearances for Millwall last season in England’s second tier, scoring five goals. However, £4-5 million is a lot of money for one team in the league to spend on a single player.
Blackburn Rovers look systematically broken at the moment. Tomasson needs to fix the defensive issues on the pitch or else there is little point in signing any centre-backs this winter as the same problems will rear their ugly heads once more.
