San Francisco 49ers’ MVP Candidate Gets Major Injury Update vs. Green Bay Packers

In a bit of a bad news for the Green Bay Packers, the San Francisco 49ers are likely to have Christian McCaffrey for their divisional round showdown on Saturday.

According to the latest injury report, McCaffrey was a full participant during their Tuesday practice amid his recovery from a calf injury.

The star running back’s status was one of the biggest talking points ahead of the 49ers-Packers meeting, especially since McCaffrey is a huge part of the Niners’ offense. Without him, their running game would severely be crippled, which would then put more pressure on quarterback Brock Purdy.

By the looks of it, though, McCaffrey won’t miss the playoff game unless he suffered a major setback in his recovery from his ailment.

Christian McCaffrey has been dealing with a calf injury since sustaining it in Week 17 against the Washington Commanders. Fortunately for the Niners, they have already secured the top seed in the NFC at that point, allowing them to rest the star running back along with their other starters for Week 18.

Of course as a benefit of being the top team in the conference, they got a bye week during the Wild Card round, giving them more time to rest their players.

NFL playoffs will be Christian McCaffrey Show, a good sign for 49ers

The 49ers described McCaffrey’s injury as a “mid” calf strain, so it really wasn’t a serious issue, per ESPN. And sure enough, a couple of weeks of rest was more than sufficient to get him closer to full health.

McCaffrey played all but the final game of the season for the 49ers during the 2023 season. He tallied 272 rushing attempts for an insane 1459 yards and 14 touchdowns. Even more amazing, he’s an equally dangerous scorer on the air, recording 67 receptions for 574 yards and seven touchdowns.

It will be interesting to see how he performs in the divisional round. Sure enough, the Green Bay Packers will hope to slow him down come Saturday.
