Huddersfield Town closing in on £2m Watford signing

Huddersfield Town are close to signing a new player from Championship rivals Watford

Huddersfield Town are in talks with Watford over the potential signing of Rhys Healey this January.

According to The Athletic, the Terriers are close to agreeing a deal to sign the 29-year-old from their Championship rivals.

Healey only joined the Hornets last summer as a free agent after departing French side Toulouse.

However, he has been unable to cement his place as a regular part of Valerien Ismael’s team, starting once in the league and making a further 10 appearances as a substitute.

Huddersfield are keen to strengthen their attacking options as they look to avoid relegation from the Championship.

This month is Darren Moore’s first opportunity to put his stamp on the first team squad at the John Smith’s stadium, having arrived as manager in September after the previous summer market.

A new striker has been sought, with the Englishman set to be the club’s third arrival of the month.

Alex Matos and Bojan Radulovic have already signed for the team, with Matos joining from Chelsea as part of a loan agreement and Radulovic coming as part of a permanent deal with Finnish side HJK Helsinki.

Meanwhile, Watford will now be searching for a permanent striker addition amid the impending absence of Healey.

Ismael is keen to sign a replacement, with the club set to earn a small profit on a player they signed for nothing last summer.
