Ridvan Yilmaz Rangers exit steps up as suitors sell two left-backs for over £10m

Ridvan Yilmaz’s Rangers exit could be about to step up in the coming days as Verona agree a deal to sell Josh Doig to Sassuolo.

The situation surrounding Yilmaz, 22, has been the longest running saga of the Rangers transfer window with both the Serie A side and Galatasaray strongly mentioned.

Rangers manager Philippe Clement even responded to questions on the situation at his latest press conference and it very much seems the Gers are open to selling the player – but only for the right price.

Now, one of the Turkish international’s suitors could be about to bank north of £10m with a left-back chasm to fill following the exits of two players.

As reported by transfer journalist Fabrizio Romano, Sassuolo appear to have “completed a deal” with Verona for the transfer of Josh Doig.

This has been backed up by Sky Sports, who report on their Live Transfer Centre (11:04pm, 18/01) that Sassuolo will pay an initial £5.1m for the ex-Hibs left-back.

Going on to claim that the deal includes a sell-on and bonuses, the likes of Football Italia have claimed the transfer fee could reach up to €7m (£6m) when all is said and done.

That said, Hibs are set to bank a “significant sell-on” as part of the deal, Josh Doig moving to Italy from Edinburgh for a reported £3m back in 2022.

Should the reports around the fee be correct, it means Verona are set to bank north of £10m for their squad’s two left-backs so far this season, even if some of it will later be divided up with Hibs.

It comes after Filippo Terracciano secured a £4.7m move to Italian giants AC Milan, the versatile right-midfielder playing the bulk of the season at left-back for the Italians.
